The Alberta Commissioner's office has been busy and productive as of late. The Commissioner has ruled that a database of pawn shop patrons is unlawful and has ordered that the database that's been in operation since 2006 be destroyed. The ruling that came down from the Privacy Commissioner certainly will put Edmonton and area back to the dark ages as it pertains to the recovery of stolen property showing up in pawnshops. Instead of recovery over $400,000. in stolen property in a year, it will be going back to much less.
