Microsoft releases guidelines for customer privacy

Yesterday in Toronto, Microsoft publicly released its internal Privacy Guidelines for Developing Software Products and Services. The company has not always enjoyed a reputation as being the most privacy sensitive and the guidelines are said to be based on lessons learned in past experiences (and backlashes). The release has been greeted by a fair measure of cynicism, as is evident by the discussion at Slashdot.
